Port Alberni Salmon Derby

September Long Weekend...Nothing beats Port Alberni's Salmon Festival for awesome fishing and a rollicking good time. Every year on the September long weekend at Clutesi Marina. Fishers come from all over Vancouver Island and beyond to compete for cash prizes and the coveted largest derby catch award. 2008 saw the first woman take home the top prize.

During Salmon Festival, the whole city celebrates! The Friday night's fireworks is a great kickoff! Eat your fill of BBQ Salmon, kick back at the beer gardens, try your aim at the Celebrity dunk tank and enjoy the music of local singers and bands. All conveniently held at the Clutesi Marina. For the children, there's the Lion's Club Bullhead Derby held on the rocks around the marina.

The Hummingbird is conveniently located just 5 blocks down the road from Clutesi Marina. So whether is walking down to the festival or a secure parking spot for your boat and trailer, The Hummingbird is the place to stay.

Superb time at the Hummingbird

The little girls thought all the "Dora" stuff was awesome. Thanks for making their holiday so memorable. Thanks also for arranging such a terrific sitter. Katie was great! We were at ease on the water knowing our girls were in good hands. The accommodations were excellent! Our family was able to stay together and we all had our own little space away from each other. The fishing was great. Jody will be bragging about the 48 lb halibut for a long time. Grandma & Grandpa love it...and us kids were thrilled with the comforts of the Hummingbird. Thanks for going the extra mile to make our annual fishing trip such a success.
