Things To See & Do

A combination of culture and landscape come together in Port Alberni to create a remarkable experience!

Port Alberni is located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and hosts the longest inlet on the island.  This waterfront community has a strong Native history and many local attractions to keep all types of visitors satisfied.

Picture yourself here, standing before the splender of a waterfall, hiking a mountain trail or kayaking through the glassy inlet waters and witnessing the majesty of an eagle soaring in flight or a whale surfacing. And all within minutes of The Hummingbird as your home base.

The Alberni Valley is a destination filled with landmarks and attractions that are magnificent, historic and inspiring. Experience Super Natural Alberni Valley with its ruggedly beautiful inlet coastline. Deep sea diving among underwater wrecks in the Graveyard of the Pacific. Windsurfers ply the waves at China Creek Marina and the harbourfront area in Port Alberni. Sproat Lake is another favourite windsurfing option and is known for brisk winds and lots of sunshine. River tubing the Somass/Stamp River system ends  you right back at The Hummingbird. Winery tours, golfing under the ever-watchful presence of Mount Arrowsmith and scenic Alberni inlet tours on a jet boat or a working freighter are just a few more ways to fill your days. Your nights can be spent relaxing on the deck of The Hummingbird while watching your supper cook on the BBQ before a dip in the hot tub and maybe a friendly game of pool in the games room.

Guest Reviews

The Hummingbird truly deserves its name

We found the Hummingbird by chance on our way to Long Beach. We were a bit reluctant to stay at a B&B because we'd had an unpleasant experience the night before at a B&B in Victoria. For this reason, we first asked to see the rooms before committing to stay. We were immediately impressed. The rooms were as beautiful, cheerful, friendly, clean and bright as a hummingbird. We all decided to stay, we even stayed one more night than originally planned.
